The cavern diver specialty course is designed to introduce the diver to the daylight/free ascent zone of caves.  It will also include facts about the cavern environment, special procedures and equipment, air management, buoyancy control, and line usage. 

Overview

This course is to provide the diver with the fundamental skills and knowledge for cavern diving, and describes the dangers involved with cave diving. The course conforms to the standards of the Cave Diving Section of the National Speleological Society and the National Association for Cave Diving as well as other NAUI and PADI recognized training standards. 

Program Description

  • Three scuba dives at two different sites, plus shallow-water line drills.
  • Penetration-training dives limited to within direct sight of cavern exit and within 130 feet from the surface.
  • No out-of-air drills practiced in the overhead environment.

Program Steps

  1. One seminar before leaving for Florida.
  2. Additional seminars before each dive.
  3. At least four dives over two days.
  4. This course is taught in northern Florida. 

Prerequisites

  • Age:  Minimum is 18 years. 
  • Certification:  PADI Advanced Open Water, NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver or equivalent
